Football is just one big TV Soap

Football is just one big TV Soap, by @Gwoffer

I used to be a big fan of Eastenders. Years ago. But I was. I watched it religiously and if I missed it I watched the omnibus. Cue half of the readers to click off this blog. Read the rest of this entry

Will West Ham be the ones singing Carrolls come Christmas?

Andy Carroll is continually and unfairly criticised, with his £35million price tag held to his neck like an executioner’s axe. However, the six-foot-three brute emphasised his rare ability to dominate a football game on his West Ham United debut, after he moved from Liverpool on loan, yes on loan, until the end of the season.

The rugged front-man created two goals and countless more opportunities on his first start for his new team as they beat Fulham 3-0 on Saturday.

Reckon his previous employers are already rueing the decision to let him go?

Carroll is a physical specimen. He is unstoppable in the air; he is mobile, freakishly strong and possesses power in his left foot akin to Thor’s hammer.

Aston Villa v Everton: reflection

I was at Villa Park two days ago for what has been reported as one of Villa’s worst performances for decades.

Harsh? No, not in my opinion.

Lack of Premier League experience sees Villa fall fowl

Football’s a game where too many opinions can be drawn from one game. Robbie Savage will be happy with his prediction that Villa will go down this season. Alex McLeish will insist after Villa’s opening game that the claret and blue army need more
players. One of those is correct.

Yes, controversial as this might be, but big eck had a point. One that actually we all agree with, at the same time as knowing the Scot is a poor manager, also correct.

Euro 2012 Betting Guide 3

In our third betting guide, our resident experts talks you through his tips for the quarter-finals…

Cristiano Ronaldo was sensational against the Dutch in Portugal’s final group game. He’s the best European footballer in the world and he always creates chances for himself. His two goals against Holland put him bang in contention to be the tournament’s top goal-scorer.

The team that has impressed me the most so far is Ronaldo’s Portugal. They are extremely dangerous going forward with Ronaldo and Nani on either wing and while Helder Postiga struggles in front of goal, he’s good with his back to the posts.

Guest Blog: Aston Villa’s Next Manager

As the hunt for a new manager seems to be in full swing, with a new favourite every day, @kerrylynn21 shares her thoughts on how the Midlands’ biggest club (!) should approach the appointment.

At the moment, despite what the latest odds are saying, there’s been no official statements of intent from the Board or the club and no informing the fans of how the manager search is being conducted. This however is no surprise for many Villa fans: the club and the fans are two separate entities at present – the connection between the two has been worn down so far it’s practically non-existent.
